MLC of Rape Victim/Sexual assault on female

1.  This case is done by WMO. Male doctors are not allowed to do examination on rape victim (female). So never attend a rape MLC if u r a male doctor.

2.  Be very careful in these cases as 90% of these are fake.Usually males of those family are also involved

.

3.  There are cases where husband actually performed sex with the wife before bringing her to the doctor as a raped by an opponent.

4.  In case of unmarried females you should know the points of vaginal examination and hymen ruptures of fresh or recent tears.You can google these so m not gonna explain these here.

5.  You should know that the timing between rape and the arrival of victim to hospital for examination is very critical . when i was in training at PFSA Dr nasir (head of PFSA) told us that if victim came after 2 days and she has bathed ,urinated ,defecated then u can write on MLC that sample taking is not necessary as chances of getting viable sample is none.U will perform the physical examination nonetheless.So if patient came to you immediately after a rape then full physical examination (general and gynecological ) is done and full set of samples are to b taken and sealed to be sent to PFSA.If she performed sex with husband after rape and only 24 to 72 hours are passes then samples are to b taken to detect anyone else sperms or DNA .

6.  Following samples are to b taken

. Three swabs each(sterile swabs lightly wet with distill water ) from any scratch marks from the skin of female, from any part from body claimed by female is licked by the accused and from any spots u may suspect mayb a semen on the skin .This only applies if patient did not take a bath after the rape.if she has taken a bath then skip these samples and write on MLC "victim bathed so no sample required from external surface"

. 3 swabs (always use sterile swabs lightly soaked with distill water) from vaginal area.superficial , fold of labia and deep vaginal swabs. u can take as many swabs as u think is necessary but not less than 3.

. 3 swabs from under the nails of female for any foreign tissue . 3 swabs from mouth i case of oral sex involvement.

. Collect any hairs from female body and comb the pubic hairs and send the hairs for DNA testing.Always sent 3 hairs from females head with roots plucked in a separate envelop and label them as victim hairs.this is to compare any tissue DNA with victims own DNA

These samples should b sealed in paper envelope and Sent to Serum & DNA and analysis department PFSA. Avoid any contact with these samples as it can contaminate the samples

*  wet swab before u take the sample so that dried blood, semen etc can stuck to swab. and DNA sample cant b taken if it is autolysed. that is why u put in paper bag so that it will dry and no bacteria auto lysis occur.

Clothes:

The clothes which were worn by the victim during the assault should b collected and sealed in paper bag (large envelope ) and sent to "Trace evidence department PFSA" for analysis. U can send pieces of clothes that contain any semen or blood but it is advised to send whole clothes.

Remember that the penalty of rape with minor is death.be very careful while performing rape examination.it cary very serious sentences. Do not declare whether rape is happened or not. Write on MLC that opinion about rape will b given after reports from PFSA.

Any injuries on body will b written down as normal injuries and will b declared as u do in normal MLC. ur verdict on Rape must b declared after PFSA results.
